Jorginho outlines Arsenal's surprise advantage over Liverpool in title race - 'It can help'

Jorginho thinks home comforts can give Arsenal an edge over the next two months.

The Gunners will leave London once between now and late January – plus that is only to Brighton. And with Liverpool and Manchester City both racking up more than 3,500 miles each in the same time Arsenal will venture 150 miles from their base, Jorginho hopes the lack of travel can help keep Mikel Arteta ’s squad fresh during the most hectic spell of the season.
Eight of Arsenal’s next 12 games are at the Emirates, starting with Manchester United on Wednesday, and there are away derbies at Fulham, Crystal Palace and Brentford in the next four weeks.

And Jorginho. speaking after destroying West Ham 5-2 on Saturday evening, said: “I think it might help. But we need to be ready for anything and trying to win in any context. We need to try and use our strength at home to win as much as possible.”

Jarrod Bowen fronted up after yet another West Ham horror show and admitted: “To be 4-0 down at home in the first half is unacceptable.”

The Hammers captain is urging his team to bounce back strongly against Leicester on Tuesday night. But head coach Julen Lopetegui again finds himself on a hot seat after the positivity of last Monday’s win at Newcastle was ripped up by a concerning surrender against Arsenal.

Despite fleeting signs of a fightback thanks to goals from Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson Palmieri, a lack of Iron will early on meant this was never really a contest.

And Bowen said: “It was hugely disappointing. I think with the way we started the game, the goals that we conceded, and the position we found ourselves in at 4-0 down after 36 minutes, it was never a good thing. At 4-2 we thought it could have been a different game, and we felt the energy. It was a lot better from us, but we conceded another penalty, and from that point it’s difficult.

“It wasn’t a good day for us, and we’re disappointed for the game to finish in the way it did. For us to be 4-0 down at home in the first half is unacceptable.

“The goals were very easy to avoid, and as a team we made too many mistakes. And against a top team like Arsenal, you’re going to get punished.”
