The Manchester United duo were both one yellow card away from suspension, heading into the Premier League fixture with Everton.
While they both made it through the first half without a booking, Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez each picked up yellow cards early in the second half.
Manchester United were leading 3-0 at the time, with goals from Marcus Rashford (2) and Joshua Zirkzee.
Suspension blow
Manchester United visit Arsenal in midweek in the Premier League, having failed to win at The Emirates in the league since 2017.
The team will have to get a result without wonderkid Mainoo, and centre-back Martinez, who are suspended after reaching the set threshold of total yellow cards this season, to incur a one-game ban.
Mainoo has only just returned from an injury sustained in early October. He was making his first appearance since, against Everton, selected as a starter.
He will get a rest in midweek against the Gunners, as will Lisandro Martinez, who had a recent injury too sustained on the international break.
United have depth
The suspension is a blow for Manchester United, yet an improving injury situation means new head coach Ruben Amorim has the depth to deal with it.
Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are all options in midfield, while in defence Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are back on the bench, with both coming on in the second half against the Toffees.
United also have Leny Yoro stepping up his return from injury, and there is a chance he could make the bench against the Gunners.
