Liverpool pair to miss training ahead of Tottenham Hotspur clash and ruled out of six matches

Availability is looking healthier than it has done of late. During Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals earlier this week, Kostas Tsimikas returned from an ankle injury while Federico Chiesa made his first appearance since September. Meanwhile, Diogo Jota came off the bench to fire home the equaliser in the 2-2 draw against Fulham, having recovered from a rib issue.

With Andy Robertson back from a one-game suspension to face Tottenham, it means that Liverpool will be without two players. Ibrahima Konate (knee) and Conor Bradley (hamstring) sustained issues in a 2-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League almost a month ago. The defensive duo have missed the previous five games and are not due to train today - meaning they won’t be back to face Spurs.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Slot said: “If I’m correct, only two players injuries left. A few are coming back from injuries but I think we only miss two players on the training ground today.

“They are on their way back but don’t train with the team yet. It is quite difficult. Let’s wait and see. We have a very good rehab personnel over here. The main thing is, if they come back then they are ready. It’s more important for the long term that if they come back, they stay fit.”

Chiesa featured in the second half against Southampton. It was only the winger’s fourth appearance since signing from Juventus in the summer transfer window. He was frozen out at the Serie A giants, meaning he arrived on Merseyside short of match fitness.

Asked if Chiesa is getting stronger, Slot replied: “He definitely is because you see him on the pitch now which means getting stronger and better. He had to adapt to quite a long time. As expected, if you miss team training for so long and then you go to a league and a team that plays with a lot of intensity [it is hard]. He is getting stronger but has competition in the right-wing position.”
