‘Not going to’: £40m player is more likely to join Liverpool than Bayern Munich – journalist

Liverpool may need to be in the market for a new right-back soon.

Jeremie Frimpong has been linked to Liverpool for a long time, and one report even suggested that Frimpong has agreed terms to join Liverpool.

Of course, no deal is done until a contract has been signed, but according to Christian Falk, speaking on the FC Bayern Insider Podcast, Liverpool’s route to signing Frimpong could be clearing up.

Indeed, according to the journalist, Bayern now have no intention of competing with Liverpool for the signature of Frimpong.

Bayern Munich won’t go for Jeremie Frimpong

According to Falk, Bayern Munich will not be going for Jeremie Frimpong alongside Liverpool.

Indeed, Falk says that Bayern are happy with their right-back options and will not be going for the £40m man.

“That’s very Jeremie Frimpong. Is it right that Bayern are now competing with Liverpool FC in poker?”

“That’s not true. Bayern actually consider themselves well enough positioned in this position. At the moment with Boey, Laimer and Stanisic, they’ve got Guerrero up their sleeve. And no, they’re not going to get involved.”

Liverpool are more likely than Bayern Munich to sign Jeremie Frimpong, and this could be an intriguing addition to Arne Slot’s side.

Indeed, as good as Alexander-Arnold is, Slot’s teams in the past haven’t really used right-backs who are almost auxiliary midfield players and playmakers.

In fact, Slot’s most used player in his coaching career so far is Lutsharel Geertuida, a player who is much more similar to Frimpong than he is Alexander-Arnold as he’s more likely to use his pace to continuously run the line rather than cross from deep or dictate play like the current Liverpool star.

Last season’s stats show that Frimpong can be just as effective as Alexander-Arnold in any case.
