Report: 'Unbelievable' £44m star has decided that he would rather join Barcelona than Liverpool

Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Leroy Sane in 2025.

The Reds surprised everyone and remained fairly quiet in last summer’s transfer window. All of us thought they would spend big money to help Arne Slot ahead of his debut campaign, but Federico Chiesa was the only one who was brought in.

We don’t expect Liverpool to do much in January, but there is a chance they will make a few new signings before the start of next season.

Sane is a player Liverpool have been linked with, but there is some bad news on that front.

Leroy Sane would rather sign for Barcelona than Liverpool
Sane is about to enter the final six months of his contract at Bayern Munich.

The German giants signed the winger from Manchester City for an initial fee of £44.7 million (BBC). He has played 197 games for them and has directly contributed to 104 goals in all competitions.

Sane’s future has been up in the air for quite some time now. Bayern have been trying to tie him down to a new deal, but there has been no agreement so far.

TBR Football revealed in October that Aston Villa and Newcastle United are monitoring Sane’s situation, but he only wants to join a Champions League club if he leaves Bayern.

Liverpool would tick that box, and CaughtOffside have revealed that the Reds are the ‘most likely destination if he moves to the Premier League’.

But, the report reveals that Sane’s preferred destination is La Liga and he has ambitions to play for Barcelona there.

Sane, hailed as an player with ‘unbelieavble potential’ by Max Eberl, feels there could be an opportunity for him at the Camp Nou if Raphinha leaves Barcelona in the summer of 2025.

Liverpool may not even need Sane because of one reason
Sane is a fantastic player, and he showed his class in the Premier League during his time at Manchester City all those years ago.

A move for the German made sense as Mohamed Salah’s future was up in the air at Anfield.

However, The Mirror revealed earlier in December that Salah is on the brink of signing a new contract that will keep him at Liverpool beyond the end of this season.

That completely eliminates the need for someone like Sane. So, his preference of joining Barcelona over Liverpool should make no difference to the Reds.

Slot, however, should prepare a succession plan on the right-wing. Liverpool should sign a young player who can learn from Salah for a couple of years before replacing him at Anfield.
