Though Arsenal picked up three points against Tottenham on Wednesday evening, Mikel Arteta watched his side miss a number of chances and that resulted in a very clear transfer verdict after the win. "Yes, for sure, because we lost two big players - Bukayo could be out for three months, and Gabby is going to be out for a long time too," Arteta told TNT Sports when asked about signing a new forward.
"We are going to try for sure. We are actively looking. "We have lost two very important players; we have 14 players in the squad, and we play every three days. So, we will try, and let's see what we can get."
A deal for Martin Zubimendi to join from Real Sociedad ahead of the 2025/26 season is already very much in the works, but Arteta needs his ranks bolstering imminently. Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko and Gyokeres have also been of interest for some time, while Brentford duo Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa are new options.
Isak has continued his excellent Newcastle form as of late with a brace arriving against Wolves on Wednesday to take him up to 17 goals for the season. Sesko is also flying high with 13 goals from 25 appearances so far in this campaign with links to Arsenal ramping up.
A departure in 2025 does appear likely with Manchester United as another interested party. Reports from Portugal have claimed he could leave for as little as £58million after reaching an agreement with Sporting and if that is the case, the Gunners may well be all over a deal.
According to a new report from L'Equipe, Arsenal are 'no longer reluctant to pay' the £83million (€100m) release clause in his contract. With such a huge financial decision believed to have been made, it would suggest that Arsenal are no longer overly concerned about profit and sustainability rules and are ready to make a big signing.
In the summer of 2023, Arsenal sealed a £105million deal for Declan Rice and could be prepared to spend a similar amount on the right player this year.
