Arsenal plot £70m striker move after Aston Villa draw as Brentford boss makes stunning Liverpool claim

Arsenal face an uphill battle to overturn Liverpool’s advantage at the top of the Premier League table after throwing away a 2-0 lead against Aston Villa on Saturday evening. The Gunners were forced to settle for a point after two goals in eight minutes was enough for the visitors to clinch a draw.

Heading into the weekend, the Gunners were just four points behind Liverpool after beating Tottenham Hotspur in midweek while the Reds were held by Nottingham Forest. Liverpool left it late to beat Brentford on Saturday as they scored twice in second-half stoppage time in a dramatic day of Premier League action.

Arsenal ‘weigh up’ Sesko move
The Gunners are now weighing up a £70m move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as they seek to address their lack of options at number nine. Gabriel Jesus is out for the season after suffering an ACL injury. Reports of the Gunners’ interest in Sesko emerged earlier this week and his agent Elvis Basanovic has been coy about his chances of a move this January. Basanovic has said, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano on X: “Even if we’re aware of interest from several top clubs for long time, if you ask me if Šeško will move in January, I can only say, Šeško is RB Leipzig player and they can answer these questions”.

Fresh reports from The Sun now claim Arsenal are considering making a move that would cost £70m although they may attempt to strike an agreement for a short-term loan. Barcelona have also been linked but a move to Camp Nou is unlikely due to the financial restrictions imposed on the club. Sesko has long been linked to the Gunners but reportedly rejected a move to North London during the summer.

Frank hails Liverpool as best team in the world
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has declared Liverpool are the best team in the world as he drew comparisons with Arsenal and Manchester City. The Gunners and Liverpool are the only two sides to beat the Bees on their own patch this season but Frank believes the Reds are the better outfit currently.

He said after Darwin Nunez scored twice to clinch victory for Liverpool on Saturday: “I think overall a good performance against a fantastic Liverpool team that I think is the best team in the Premier League. Of course, they are No.1, so I don’t think that’s a surprise to anyone, but probably also the best team in the world. We just played against City and Arsenal and now Liverpool in short succession, and I think they are a level above the two others right now. More complete in all phases of the game. Yeah, very good, exceptionally good.”

Reflecting on their draw with Villa, Arteta said: “There are moments, and obviously they (Liverpool) managed to do that (win). They made the subs, and the subs made the impact and changed the game. On our side it was the opposite, even after conceding the two goals very close to each other. The danger was that I knew half the team could go downhill because we were physically drained.”
