The Gunners' forward line has been hit hard recently, with key players Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Ethan Nwaneri all out of action. In light of these setbacks, Arteta disclosed Arsenal's ambition to recruit a new striker this January.
Following the Gunners' 2-1 victory over Spurs in the north London derby, Arteta told TNT Sports: "Yes, for sure because we lost two big players, Bukayo who could be out for up to three months and then Gabby who will be out for a long, long, long time.
"We are going to try [in this window] for sure. We are actively looking. We will try. Let's see what we can get."
L'Equipe has reported that Arsenal are prepared to meet Gyokeres' hefty €100million (£83m) release clause. The Sporting ace has been on fire this season, scoring an impressive 32 goals in just 30 appearances.
While Arsenal have shown interest in Alexander Isak and Jonathan David, neither Newcastle nor Lille seem inclined to sell during the January window. However, Gyokeres could be a different story due to his release clause.
At 26 years old, Gyokeres has caught the attention of several top European clubs, including Manchester United and Bayern Munich. He has openly expressed his desire to soon play for "one of the best teams in Europe"
When quizzed about his future ambitions last month, Gyokeres revealed to Marca: "We will see. There are many rumours circulating, but we are in the middle of the season, there are still many months left.
"We will see when the time comes what will happen. My goal? To play for one of the best teams in Europe. That is the objective. It has been difficult at times.
"I have played many seasons in the Championship. It is a very good and tough league, but it is clear that I have always wanted to play in some important league."
