Arsenal ready to sign £83m striker now after Mikel Arteta issues transfer demand

Arsenal are reportedly ready to splash the cash on Viktor Gyokeres this month, with Mikel Arteta admitting the Gunners are "actively looking" to strengthen their squad.
Arsenal's attacking options have taken a major hit in recent weeks, with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Ethan Nwaneri all currently sidelined through injury. As a result, Arteta revealed that Arsenal are hoping to sign a new forward in the January transfer window.

Speaking to TNT Sports after Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-1 in the North London derby, the Spaniard said: "Yes, for sure because we lost two big players, Bukayo who could be out for up to three months and then Gabby who will be out for a long, long, long time.

"We are going to try [in this window] for sure. We are actively looking. We will try. Let's see what we can get."

And according to a new report from L'Equipe, Arsenal are 'no longer reluctant to pay' Gyokeres' €100million (£83m) release clause. The Sporting striker has been in prolific form this season, netting 32 goals in 30 games across all competitions.

The report notes that Arsenal are also interested in Alexander Isak and Jonathan David, but neither Newcastle or Lille are willing to sell them in January. However, Gyokeres' situation is different due to his release clause.

The 26-year-old has been linked with moves to a number of European giants, including Manchester United and Bayern Munich, and he has admitted he does want to play for "one of the best teams in Europe" soon.

When asked about his future last month, Gyokeres told Spanish outlet Marca : "We will see. There are many rumours circulating, but we are in the middle of the season, there are still many months left. We will see when the time comes what will happen.

"My goal? To play for one of the best teams in Europe. That is the objective. It has been difficult at times. I have played many seasons in the Championship. It is a very good and tough league, but it is clear that I have always wanted to play in some important league."
