Arsenal star in advanced talks to quit Emirates as Everton signing opens door - report

Flamengo are allowing Carlos Alcaraz to join Everton because they’re in advanced talks to sign Arsenal midfielder Jorginho, according to Vene Casagrande.

The Brazilian journalist reported via X on Friday (31 January) that Flamengo are set to recover almost the entire £15million they paid Southampton for Alcaraz last year and are progressing in a deal to sign Jorginho, 33, either now or in the summer.

The Argentinean central midfielder only signed for the Brazilian giants last year from Southampton but Casagrande told his 1million X followers that there are fears he doesn’t fit in with the style of play in Rio de Janeiro and his value could suffer he continues to stay there.

After signing for Flamengo from Southampton in August, Alcaraz has gone on to play 19 times in all competitions in Brazil.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES
He’s already played once in the Premier League this season when he made his final Southampton appearance against Newcastle in their opening-day defeat at St James’ Park.

Everton agree out-of-the-blue Alcaraz deal on Friday
It came as a bit of a shock to Evertonians to see that David Moyes and Kevin Thelwell have wrapped up the signing of Alcaraz.

The Blues have been able to sign a new overseas player on loan after Orel Mangala suffered a season-ending ACL injury against Brighton at the weekend.

Speaking earlier on Friday, Moyes confirmed that Mangala’s loan deal will be cut short and the Toffees have wasted no time at all in filling up that loan spot again.

David Moyes, Everton manager
David Moyes has returned to Everton.
It seems like a good deal, too.

For £15million, the Toffees are getting themselves a quality young Argentinean midfielder, who already has a good amount of experience in English football.

Everton fans should be excited by this one and Flamengo fans should probably be happy to see a big-name player in Jorginho joining them as a result.
