Arsenal transfer news: Viktor Gyokeres transfer approved as Karim Benzema call made

Arsenal need a striker and they need one now.

The Gunners are struggling in attack where injuries have started to bite - the latest to be struck down being Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian is set to be sidelined for the majority of the campaign with a serious knee injury.

Despite that, they got a huge helping hand from Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke to win Wednesday’s North London derby. The former Bournemouth man’s own goal levelled matters of Heung Min-son’s strike.

Leandro Trossard then secured a big three points, with transfer rumours continuing to swirl in the aftermath. Take a look at the latest transfer talk from the Emirates Stadium from the past 24 hours:
Arteta approves Gyokeres swoop
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has green-lit a stunning move for Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres. The Gunners are in desperate need of a forward and the Swede is seen as the perfect man for the job.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, Arsenal are ‘no longer reluctant’ to splash the cash on the Manchester United target. Gyokeres has a €100million (£83m) release clause written into his Sporting contract, something that the Gunners are now open to activating.

Gyokeres is not the only candidate being considered by Arsenal for a January move. Newcastle star Alexander Isak is a target, while Lille forward Jonathan David is also on the club’s list.

Benzema makes call
Ex-Real Madrid star Karim Benzema is not considering retirement after being told to sign for Arsenal. Rio Ferdinand has told the North London side to make a move for the Frenchman.

Speaking on TNT Sport, he said: He said: "I’d go and get Benzema. I’d say give me a six-month loan, have that."

Meanwhile, Benzema intends to play on despite now being 37. He has not set a limit for hanging up his boots, with the veteran having 18 months remaining on his current deal with Saudi side Al-Ittihad.

Brentford response to Mbeumo interest
Another forward that Arsenal have been linked with is Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo. He has enjoyed a sensational campaign so far having scored 13 goals in 21 Premier League appearances this season.

But it appears that the Bees are in no mood to sell. Asked if his side could sell Mbeumo this month, Brentford boss Thomas Frank replied: “No. So, very easy to answer that question!”

Mbeumo’s teammate Yoane Wissa is also courted by a host of Premier League sides this month including Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
