The Gunners identified the 18-year-old as a potential addition earlier this month having been tracking his development. Nypan, a product of the Rosenborg academy, made his name for the Norwegian side and has courted plenty of interest.
Manchester United and Manchester City have both been credited with interest in him, albeit it appears that the Red Devils are now out of the race. And Arsenal will look to take advantage of that fact with their own move for the youngster.
According to The Athletic, work to seal Nypan’s services is ongoing with talks between the clubs and his representatives reportedly ‘advancing’. It is suggested that while the youngster would be signed as one for the future, he would immediately link up with Arsenal’s first team.
Despite that, a firm decision on his future is yet to be made and the race for his services remains open. The Norwegian top-flight is currently paused, with this month earmarked for a move.
Nypan has already spoken out on his future and claimed that a move to Old Trafford is a target. But he has not allowed himself to get wrapped up in speculation.
Speaking on a Norwegian podcast last year, he said: "It would obviously be a dream come true to play for Manchester United. I'm aware United has shown some interest. But I'm quite adamant that I don't want to open that door yet. I want to focus on Rosenborg and not think too far ahead."
Nypan is one of the most promising young players in Scandinavia. He became Rosenborg’s youngest player ever to score in a league game when he found the net at just 16 years and 145 days old.
Away from Nypan, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has already made a public appeal to club chiefs that his attacking options need bolstering. Speaking earlier this month, he said: "My opinion is clear, we lost two very important players in Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus so we lack goals, we lack people, we lack options in the front line, it's clear.
"If we can get the right player, that's what we're actively looking at. Any player? No. Someone that makes us better and has an impact on the team. We need some help, we're very short already but the team is coping. We have to do what is right for the club."
