WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Gunners just a short time ago.
The 24-year-old full-back joins Arsenal from American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club NJ/NY Gotham FC. Nighswonger has spent the last two years with the club, winning the NWSL Championship in 2023.
Prior to her spell with NJ/NY Gotham FC, Nighswonger started out at LA Galaxy OC before combining her studies with college football at Florida State University.
On the international stage, Nighswonger has been capped by the United States on 18 occasions while she has scored two goals. The player was an Olympic Gold Medalist with The Stars and Stripes last summer.
After completing her move to Arsenal, Nighswonger said “I’m so happy to be here. I’ve always wanted to play in England and joining such an historic football club is a dream come true. I want to win trophies with this club and help the team in any way possible. It’s an incredible feeling to be able to call myself an Arsenal player and I can’t wait to get started.”
Nighswonger is Arsenal’s first signing of the January transfer window.
