But spirits are up heading into the new year, with a New Year’s day win over Brentford making it four straight wins and three straight in the league. Next up is a trip to the South coast to take on a Brighton side currently placed in 10th, still very much in place to compete for the European spots. Here we round up all the latest injury news ahead of the game.
Ferdi Kadioglu - Out
Kadioglu remains out with an ankle injury. Fabian Hurzeler has said: “Unfortunately not, it will be a while.”
James Milner - Out
Milner is out with a hamstring injury and will remain out for another week or two. Hurzeler has said: “We are trying to bring him back on the pitch as quickly as possible and to help him with his rehab. It’s hard to predict when that will be.”
Danny Welbeck - Out
Welbeck is behind Milner in his recovery from an ankle issue. The striker is looking at mid-January, with Hurzeler saying: “I can't say a clear schedule. It can be quick, but it could also take two or three more weeks. He is without any pain, so that’s a really good thing. And he is back on the pitch. But we have to go day by day, and hopefully, he can be back soon.”
Jack Hinshelwood - Out
Hinshelwood is said to be ‘close’, but this one will come too soon.
Adam Webster - Doubt
Webster could return from a thigh injury here. Hurzeler has said: “We still have to be patient. I think it takes two or three more weeks until he's back on the pitch, but he's very positive, and I think the injury is not that bad.”
Pervis Estupinan - Doubt
Estupinan is being assessed amid illness. He will be a doubt here.
Mats Wiefer - Out
Wiefer is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Evan Ferguson - Out
Ferguson is sidelined with an ankle injury with limited information on his potential return.
Diego Gomez - Doubt
Gomez is a doubt due to his late arrival, with Hurzeler saying: “We still have to be patient. I think it takes two or three more weeks until he's back on the pitch, but he's very positive, and I think the injury is not that bad.”
Jurrien Timber - Out (Suspended)
Timber has reached his yellow card limit and will be suspended for this one.
Ben White - Out
White will be out after having a procedure on his knee. Arteta said at the time: “Ben is going to be out for months. We had to make a decision in the last few weeks, unfortunately. It got to a point where we had to protect the player, and we decided to do the surgery.”
Raheem Sterling - Doubt
Sterling should be in contention here, with Arteta saying last week: “The news with Raz, I think it's better. We have to see this week how he evolves. So, hopefully, that's good because we need him.”
Kai Havertz - Doubt
Havertz was sent home due to illness, with Arteta wanting to limit any risk of other players getting ill. The Spaniard said: “With Kai, it was obvious he wasn’t feeling well at all, and he had very clear symptoms, so stay away from it, put him in a car and go back home.” Havertz will naturally be a doubt for this one given the quick turnaround.
Bukayo Saka - Out
Saka is out with a hamstring injury, and that will be the case for some time. Arteta has said: “He had a procedure. Everything went well. But unfortunately, he will be out for many, many weeks. I think it will be more than two months. I don't know exactly how much longer.”
We are still waiting for a fresh update on Tomiyasu as he continues his long recovery from a knee injury. He shouldn’t be too far off, but the defender does remain out for now
