Once again, Arsenal relied on a goal from one of their defenders to beat Tottenham on Wednesday night, and that sort of tactic just isn’t sustainable.
Arsenal have struggled in front of goal over the past week against Newcastle and Manchester United as Kai Havertz has been criticised for his poor performances.
Gabriel Jesus is now out injured, and with the January window open, Arsenal could look to bring in a new number nine.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Arsenal’s plans to land a new striker, and he says that the club have been making calls over the last 24 to 48 hours to check on the availability of important strikers around Europe.
Arsenal have made striker calls
Romano shared what he knows about Arsenal looking for a new striker.
The journalist says that Arsenal are working on bringing in a new centre-forward and have made calls over the last two days to work towards that.
“Mikel Arteta already confirmed that Arsenal are working for a new addition and I can tell you that in the last 24 to 48 hours there were many calls from Arsenal to ask about important players around Europe. Arsenal are exploring opportunities for the striker position. Let’s see what they’re able to do, so a work in progress,” Romano said.
Which striker could Arsenal sign?
Arsenal have made calls about striker signings over the past 48 hours, and while it’s unknown which players the Gunners were asking about, we can make a good guess.
Indeed, Arsenal have been linked with a number of strikers in recent times, and, as the old saying goes, there’s no smoke without fire.
Arsenal like Dusan Vlahovic, so the Gunners may have explored that avenue recently, while Jonathan David has been linked to Arsenal too.
Those four players are all interesting options, but when you look at the stats, it’s not so clear to see which player the Gunners should be going for.
Jonathan David has been in the best form of that quartet this season, and if Arsenal do want a pure goalscorer, he may well be their man.
However, Arsenal do like the idea of having a more physical presence up front, and Sesko, Vlahovic and Ferguson are more suited to ticking that box given their respective height.
It remains to be seen what Arsenal do in January, but it could be an exciting month for the Gunners.
