Liverpool could be looking at six huge transfers after Arne Slot's tip-off to Gary Lineker

In a chat with Gary Lineker towards the end of a quiet January transfer window, Arne Slot uttered the words every Liverpool fan has been hoping for.

"We are definitely working on strengthening in the summer," the Reds boss told Lineker on Football Focus.

Having saved their cash during the winter for what could be an all-out, splash-the-cash summer, Express Sport takes you through six players who could move to Anfield if Slot comes good on his promise...

Florian Wirtz
The German international could be heading towards the end of his final season at Bayer Leverkusen. And it is set to be his most prolific yet, with 15 goals in all competitions from attacking midfield.

Liverpool are among the selection of heavyweight European sides to have been linked with 21-year-old Wirtz, who also has the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea on his tail.

Johan Bakayoko
Amid the threat of losing Mohamed Salah to Saudi Arabia, Liverpool may need a big presence to replace him on the wing. Bakayoko fits into that category, and the Reds will be well aware of his talent after he netted in PSV Eindhoven's 3-2 win over them on Wednesday night.

Liverpool were heavily linked with the 21-year-old last summer and they could go back in for him at the end of the season.

Marc Guehi
Virtually every Premier League club with money and ambition has shown an interest in signing Guehi over the past 12 months. Newcastle United had a £65million bid rejected last summer, while Chelsea are rumoured to be eyeing up a reunion with their former academy star.

Liverpool are also believed to be in the mix. And if Guehi is to leave Crystal Palace, it will surely be this summer, given that the centre-back's contract expires in June 2026. Signing a talent of Guehi's stature will be essential if Virgil van Dijk allows his deal to run down and leaves Anfield on a free.

Milos Kerkez
Andrew Robertson's drop-off in form has forced Liverpool to plan for a future without the Scottish international at left-back. And Bournemouth star Kerkez is a standout candidate, with five goal contributions for the high-flying Cherries this season at just 21 years old. Manchester United are also believed to be interested in the Hungarian.

Jeremie Frimpong
Trent Alexander-Arnold is widely expected to join Real Madrid in the summer, and he would leave big boots to fill at right-back.

Jeremie Frimpong has long been linked with a move to Anfield. Like Alexander-Arnold, he offers some of the best attacking output in Europe for his position, and the Leverkusen star is once again enjoying a strong campaign with six goal contributions in 19 Bundesliga games.

Jorrel Hato
Ajax's versatile 18-year-old defender has already played more than 100 senior games and made five appearances for the Netherlands.

There was excitement among Liverpool fans when Hato was spotted in the stands to watch the Reds beat Ipswich Town at Anfield on Saturday. But the youngster has since clarified that he was invited to the game by his compatriot, Ryan Gravenberch.
