'Made a call': Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal have just been in contact to sign £100m striker

Mikel Arteta is now making no attempt to hide the fact that Arsenal need to recruit a striker before the January transfer window ends.

Kai Havertz was exhausted at the end of Arsenal’s 1-0 win away to Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, a striker who is simply playing too many minutes.

Havertz is often lamented for missing big chances, but there’s little recognition of just how much the German striker is doing for the club – an incredibly hard worker who will not stop winning duels for 90 minutes.

That being said, Arsenal need to find someone to help Havertz in the final months of the season given Gabriel Jesus’ long-term knee injury.

And whilst names like Benjamin Sesko or Evan Ferguson are most often linked with Arsenal right now, Fabrizio Romano has just shared news of a surprising enquiry.

Arsenal made a recent enquiry to sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran
According to Romano, who shared his update on his YouTube channel, Arsenal recently ‘made a call’ to Aston Villa to find out about Jhon Duran.

Duran has been flying at Villa this season, a striker who would start for most top teams in Europe.

And it seems as if Arsenal only submitted a tentative enquiry based off Romano’s words, it’s still pretty remarkable news.

Sharing his update, Romano said: “For Jhon Duran, let me tell you something. West Ham had a bid rejected. Interest from several clubs around Europe.

“What I’m told is also Arsenal made a call in recent weeks to understand the situation of Jhon Duran because Sesko, at the moment, no green light from Leipzig.

“Also, Alexander Isak, the dream target of Arsenal, super expensive, very complicated, impossible is nothing in football, but very complicated.

“So in the recent weeks, Arsenal also called to understand the situation of Jhon Duran, but no bid, no direct negotiations with Aston Villa.

“Al-Nassr want Jhon Duran, but Aston Villa insist on their position, they want to keep the player at the club.

“So, let’s see what’s going to happen and if maybe a crazy proposal can change their position for Jhon Duran.”

Jhon Duran could be Arsenal’s Alexander Isak alternative
Interestingly, Arsenal were linked with Duran in the past too, a striker who is keen to explore options beyond Villa if it means being a regular starter.

In the past, Arsenal were thought to have the chance to sign Alexander Isak for a cut price from Newcastle United in comparison to what the Sweden international would cost now.

And even if Duran would be expensive for Arteta’s side this month, is that there an opportunity to be had?

Villa think Duran is worth more than £100m, but if Arsenal seriously tabled their interest then a more amicable price might be found, one that suits all parties.

It’s all very hypothetical for now, but it will certainly cause a huge transfer saga were the Gunners to seriously ignite their interest after a recent enquiry, albeit a fairly tentative one.
