Mikel Arteta gets £67m transfer approval as Arsenal must make huge decision now

Arsenal's pursuit of Benjamin Sesko could hit a snag as the striker is set to be available for £67million in the summer - leaving Mikel Arteta with a significant transfer conundrum.
The Gunners are crying out for more attacking prowess with both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus out of action. The club's seeming hesitation to secure a new forward during the January transfer window has irked some supporters, especially with goals currently scarce.

Sesko is no stranger to Arsenal's radar: they even attempted to secure him last summer before the Slovenian decided to renew his contract with RB Leipzig. He could add much needed firepower as the North Londoners bid to catch Premier League leaders Liverpool.

However, Arsenal are juggling several options and are known to be monitoring Matheus Cunha, who might still depart Wolves this month. With it being improbable that they would sign both players, Arsenal and Arteta have much to mull over in the forthcoming weeks.

Earlier this month, reports suggested that Cunha was on the brink of signing a new contract with Wolves. However, the player's agent is attempting to shift the terms of said deal while keeping an eye out for any potential transfer opportunities, reports the Mirror.

Securing the Brazilian would undoubtedly bolster Arsenal's attacking options in the title race. But with Sky Sports now disclosing that Sesko is free to move for £67m at the end of the season, Arsenal may decide waiting for the RB Leipzig star is the smarter choice.

Wolves would demand a staggering £80m to let Cunha go this month given their current struggle at the bottom of the Premier League table. Meanwhile, Wolves' new manager Vitor Pereira had a bone to pick with Cunha post-Chelsea defeat, after the striker seemingly dodged acknowledging the supporters.

He said: "This is something that cannot happen again, the frustration is the frustration, I understand everything, we need to be together. And together we can fix the problems and stay in the Premier League.
"If we start to complain about this and that, with this it won't work. He's [Cunha] committed to Wolves, but when you start to listen to the other clubs, I think he's human, the players start to be a little bit... It's normal in football."

Pereira also commented on the forward's focus and fitness, adding: "He needs to put the mind in the target to increase his level. He comes from injury, it's normal he's not in the same level to help the team with his quality. He has a lot, the team needs him with good energy, not with frustration, he must slow down and put the mind in the right way.

"He's a captain. He can be frustrated as he wants to win but everyone in the dressing room wants to win. I don't like his body language. I understand it now, I won't understand it next time."
