Report: Trent Alexander-Arnold has done exactly what Real Madrid have asked him to ahead of leaving Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future very much hangs in the balance as Real Madrid continue to pursue his signing from Liverpool.

His current deal expires at the end of the season and the Reds remain locked in talks to tie him down to a new contract.

Real Madrid made their move to sign Alexander-Arnold in January, but Liverpool stood firm on their stance that he won’t be sold midway through the season.

And now, the La Liga giants have reportedly told the Liverpool vice-captain what he has to do if he wants to move to the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid are pondering a second bid for Alexander-Arnold, but with Liverpool confirming that they won’t part with him in January, they might have to wait to snap him up on a free transfer.

Los Blancos have completed a few high-profile free transfers over the years, with Kylian Mbappe most recently joining the club for nothing from PSG in the summer of 2023.

Real Madrid’s interest in Mbappe was well documented and the club made several offers to sign him while he was in Paris, but the Ligue 1 giants never budged and eventually lost him for nothing.

And now, a report from Marca states that Real Madrid have asked Alexander-Arnold to follow in Mbappe’s footsteps, with the Liverpool vice-captain told by the club that he will have to wait and sign for the club for free.

Real Madrid speculation affecting Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold
The 26-year-old has been in fine form for club and country this season and has fared quite well defensively under Arne Slot, but his performance against Manchester United wasn’t his best, to say the least.

Liverpool fans urged the club to keep Alexander-Arnold with a new banner in the Kop as they continue to work behind the scenes to renew his contract.

With the Reds embroiled in a title race, they can’t afford to have too many distractions between now and the end of the season.

However, judging by his most recent display, all the talk about his future is clearly getting to Trent, so everyone involved needs to come to a conclusion soon.
