This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Gunners’ indecision could be detrimental to their plans.
Brown clarified that the January transfer window can be difficult for clubs to find the right targets, but a lack of urgency has done Mikel Arteta’s side no favours.
Arsenal have been assessing potential options to strengthen up front since the summer, but are no closer to making an official offer to strengthen in a key position.
Instead, it has been suggested that they may end the January window without an incoming attacking option and will be forced to deal with their current issues for the rest of the season.
However, after reports claimed Nottingham Forest made a formal £22million offer to sign the 28-year-old, they could now be set to miss out on yet another target.
Arsenal to miss out on key targets after transfer twist
Benjamin Sesko and Victor Osimhen have also been linked with moves to the Emirates, but they have yet to make any progress towards completing a deal this month.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Arsenal are determined to find the right options but could miss out as a result.
“They’re still looking to find the right striker this month,” he told Football Insider.
“They’re always looking and preparing to strengthen all over their team.
“But it’s not easy, especially in January, because you need to find the right player and the right fit for the club, and then they have to be available for the right price.
“So whether that’s Sesko, Osimhen, Wissa or somebody else, they have to decide whether they’re right for them and the way they want to play.
“In trying to find the right target, they’re taking their time, but that could lead to its own problems.
“Chances are if Arsenal are interested in a striker, they’re not going to be the only ones looking at him, and if they keep waiting then clubs will move ahead of them and they’ll miss out.
“It’s important to make the right decision, of course, but as it stands they may end up not signing anybody and then they face the same problems for another six months.”
