Sky Sports reporter hailed for incredible Darwin Nunez Liverpool interview

Natalie Gedra has been lauded by fans for her bilingual interview with Darwin Nunez following's Liverpool's 2-0 win over Brentford. The 25-year-old striker, who scored two crucial goals in stoppage time against the Bees, spoke very little English.

But, the Sky Sports reporter managed to blend English and Spanish to facilitate a conversation. Despite struggling for regular starts under Arne Slot, Nunez's late goals sent a clear message of his readiness for more action.

Gedra introduced the interview by branding the Uruguay international as a 'hero'. She said: "Here he is, the hero of this match, the hero of this Liverpool win against Brentford. Nunez scored two goals so I'm going to start talking to him and asking him about the circumstances of the match, two goals after 90 minutes."

She then conversed with Nunez in Spanish, translating his responses for the audience. He admitted that the season hadn't been easy but expressed happiness with his 'important' goals. Gedra continued the interview by probing into Nunez's challenges in securing a spot in Liverpool's first team.

She added: "I'm going to ask about this challenging season that he's had because he hasn't been the first option as a striker for Liverpool."

After Nunez replied, Gedra added: "He said he never throws in the towel and if he's struggling with finishing then he will try more on a daily basis. He knows he's going through a tough time but will continue giving everything he can to Liverpool. These two goals he scored today will make a good cause for him."

The unique post-match interview was well received by fans, particularly as players who speak little English often avoid such interactions. As quoted by the Mirror, one fan praised the new Sky reporter on YouTube.

They said: "Having this new Sky reporter is brilliant. She essentially unlocks all the Spanish and South American players that we rarely get to hear from. She's fantastic."

Another fan expressed their respect for the reporter and the interview, hoping that the positive feedback would reach Sky Sports and encourage change. They said: "Massive respect to that reporter and the interview in general.

"I hope everyone's praise for her and how this interview was conducted actually gets through to Sky Sports and forces a bit of change. This allows foreign players to integrate into the English leagues more naturally and more confidently."

A third fan also voiced their admiration, saying: "Forgetting the fact that this interviewer has many languages, but she asks questions us the fans want to know, Nunez is a mystery on and off the field. Good to hear him talk. Great interview."

Slot praised Nunez's performance, expressing his satisfaction with the player's contribution to the team. The Liverpool boss said: "I think he's having a good season, where he scores goals, he works very hard for the team, he assists. But he's in competition with a lot of good players, so that's why he's not every single game on the pitch."

He added: "But I'm very happy with him – not only because he scored today two goals but that, of course, helps – but I'm very happy with the other performances he put in for us as well."
