Transfer talks advancing as Journalist revealed What Arsenal would have to do to be able to sign Nico Williams this month

In December, Arsenal went three league games without scoring a goal from open play, and that’s the sort of run that can cost you a title.

Luckily, the transfer window is open, and Arsenal are looking at new attacking options.

Speaking on The Transfers Podcast, Duncan Castles and Jonathan Northcroft have been discussing Arsenal’s interest in Williams and what would have to happen for this deal to come to fruition.
What has to happen for Arsenal to sign Nico Williams
Castles and Northcroft spoke about Arsenal and their move for Nico Williams.

Castles says that Arsenal do have some flexibility in terms of profit and sustainability rules, but they do need to make sales to make any big signings.

Northcroft backs that up, claiming that some departures may have to be sanctioned if Arsenal are to move for Williams.

“My guidance on their transfer market is they have a degree of PSR flexibility, but ideally we’d need to make sales to buy, to make big signings, which is what they want to do with Arteta,” Castles said.

“He was keen on Nico Williams again, who obviously turned down the opportunity to move to Barcelona in the summer, has a defined release clause, but that release clause would have to be paid.

“Just close to 60 million euros would have to be paid in one go, unless they can convince his club to take instalments on it, which they’re unlikely to do, particularly mid-season.”

“It would be my understanding in that model that unless Kroenkes are going to put in even more money, they’d have to, if they are going to keep pushing, if they did want to sign the Nico Williams, I think there’d have to be some sort of outgoings as well,” Northcroft said.

“Sesko is an interest in one because, yeah, they were interested, but ultimately that’s what I was talking about, didn’t push that hard in the end and put their money elsewhere on the assumption that the Havertz can sort out our striking issues and wouldn’t it be nice to have another midfielder.”

Who could Arsenal sell?
Arsenal need to sell players if they want to sign a player like Williams, and there are a few players who could leave this month.

Jakub Kiwior has been linked with a move away from Arsenal, and his potential sale could recoup a decent transfer fee.

Celtic want Kieran Tierney, and while he will leave the club for free in the summer, Arsenal could receive some sort of fee if he is to leave this month.

Meanwhile, Fabio Vieira, Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga remain on Arsenal’s books as loan players, so perhaps Arsenal could figure out a way to cash in on that trio.

It’s unknown how much cash Arsenal would need to raise in order to get the Williams deal over the line, but if the Gunners can find a way to get this deal done, it could be a gamechanger of a signing.

Williams is a top class player, and Arsenal should push the boat out in order to get this deal done.
