'Very advanced': £34m Liverpool player has just taken a step closer to leaving Reds this summer - journalist

Mohamed Salah has dominated the headlines on and off the pitch for Liverpool this season.

The Egyptian has led from the front under Arne Slot, spearheading the Reds to the top of the pile in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Off the pitch, Salah’s contract situation has emerged as a big taking point, with his current Liverpool deal set to expire at the end of the season.

And now, it appears as if Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have made their move to sign him on a free transfer in the summer.

Salah has publicly spoken about leaving Liverpool a handful of times over the past few months, which has been seen as a sign from the Egyptian to force the club’s hand.

He is the highest-paid player in the club’s history and signed a new deal in 2022, after which his form has shown no signs of declining.

Despite being 32, Salah is one of the best players in the world and looks set to play at the top level for at least two more seasons.

Liverpool have offered Salah a new deal, but he hasn’t yet signed on the dotted line, raising the possibility of a transfer.

And now, journalist Gianluigi Longari believes Al Hilal have ‘well-established dialogues’ with Salah

Gianluigi Longari wrote on X: “Al Hilal Club is in a ‘very-advanced’ state of negotiations with Mohamed Salah in view of next season.

“Nothing definite, but well-established dialogues.”

After confirming that Neymar won’t be a part of the squad for the second half of the season – which seemingly means he doesn’t have a long-term future at the club – Al Hilal have made their intentions on Salah very clear now.

Liverpool need to sort out Salah situation ASAP
The Reds are also in talks to extend the contracts of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, so they have a lot of work to do between now and the end of the season.

Liverpool can’t afford to lose a player like Salah as there isn’t a forward out there who can replicate his end product and availability.

With time running out and potential suitors positioning themselves, Liverpool need to make their move in the coming weeks to avoid the saga from spilling into the business end of the season.

Having signed for £34m in the summer of 2017, Salah has been one of the greatest signings in the club’s history, but is his time at Anfield coming to an end? Time will tell.
