Arsenal in talks right now over completing deadline day move for striker

Arsenal remain in talks with Bayern Munich over a potential move for French striker Mathys Tel before the January transfer window deadline tonight, according to the Guardian journalist Ed Aarons.

However, the Bundesliga club are pushing for a permanent sale or for an obligation to buy to be included in any loan deal, while the Gunners want a loan deal with an option to buy.

Bayern rejected two bids from Manchester United over the weekend for Tel, and the 19-year-old appears open to leaving to where he can play regularly having struggled for chances since joining the German top-flight club.

Arsenal could do with attacking reinforcements following injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, and Tel fits the bill.

Bayern may need to accept a loan deal with an option to buy from suitors for the Frenchman to have a realistic chance of leaving the club before the end of the day, and the North London club will continue to keep tabs on the situation.

They will also be monitoring other options in the position and will not hesitate to swoop should a quality attacker become available in the coming hours.

Arsenal need a new number 9 despite securing an emphatic 5-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday, and landing one could boost their chances of pipping Liverpool to the Premier League title heading into the final months of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Gunners are six points behind the leaders having played one more game, and they need to be on top of their game for the remainder of the season.

A quality squad depth will go a long way in strengthening their chances of winning a first Premier League title since 2004, and with their fans waiting eagerly for some positive news, they will keep pushing to get a forward before the 11 pm deadline tonight.
