Edu’s resignation was a shock to many at Arsenal, and Mikel Arteta’s growing influence was apparently key in Edu’s decision to leave.
Arteta is growing in power at Arsenal, and according to Duncan Castles, speaking on The Transfers Podcast, the Spaniard is now playing a part in searching for Edu’s replacemernt.
According to Castles, Mikel Arteta is pushing for Arsenal to hire Luis Campos, who is currently in an advisory role at PSG.

Mikel Arteta wants Luis Campos hired
Castles shared what he knows about Luis Campos and Arsenal.
According to the journalist, Arteta is pushing for Arsenal to hire Campos, claiming that he believes Campos can help Arsenal in a number of areas.
Intriguingly, Castles also says that Arteta has a close relationship with Campos.
“This is the other big Premier League club that are looking to see whether they can take this window of opportunity that’s coming with Campos’ contract expiring and get him to the Premier League. I think that’s where Arsenal are looking. Now, I’m told that’s being driven by Mikael Arteta,” Castles said.
Arteta wants to be able to choose the replacement for Edu. He feels that he needs someone to help around the team, around recruitment, around, you know, organisational elements at the training ground, around practices with medical science, et cetera, training policies, the gamut of things that Campos has also dealt with in his career. He wants someone who can come in with the expertise to turn a team that have been contenders for the Premier League into actual winners for the Premier League.
The relationship, I understand, is quite a long-standing one. In fact, Arteta was a candidate for the PSG job, he was one of the individuals that Campos approached to take the PSG job when he first came in to the Paris club.”

Bringing Luis Campos to Arsenal could be a masterstroke by Mikel Arteta.
Indeed, Campos is one of the best in the business, and his track record shows it.
Campos was the man who built the Monaco and Lille teams who beat PSG to Ligue 1 titles over the past decade, and he’s signed some absolute gems for both of those sides.

Campos certainly knows how to sniff out a top player, and he could work wonders at Arsenal if he were to head to north London.
Arsenal, of course, need a new striker this summer, but perhaps getting a new Sporting Director should be a bigger priority.
