Chido Obi Arsenal reunion handed major blow as Man United make FA Cup decision

Manchester United have confirmed that Chido Obi won't be involved against former club Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup on Friday. The 17-year-old, who joined United from the Gunners in October, has been recently promoted to Ruben Amorim's first-team squad following Amad Diallo's season-ending injury.

He was handed his senior debut in the 1-0 defeat at Tottenham earlier this month before getting minutes off the bench against Everton last Saturday. Chido Obi was named on the bench for the 3-2 win over Ipswich on Wednesday but remained as an unused substitute.

Chido Obi has been impressive for United Under 18s in the Youth Cup this season, scoring seven goals in three matches in the competition. However, the teenager will not be involved for United during their quarter-final trip to Arsenal on Friday night after being held back by Amorim.

It's anticipated that Chido Obi will instead feature in the United first-team squad for the FA Cup game against Fulham on Sunday afternoon. Chido Obi has been involved in each of United's last three matches and is set to continue that run after impressing Amorim and those above.

After his senior debut for United at Tottenham, Chido Obi expressed his pride to have made his first-team bow. " "Disappointed with the loss," the 2007-born forward said on Instagram. "On a personal note, thanks to the gaffer & the club for making a dream come true for me and my family."

Chido Obi's absence is no doubt a major boost for Arsenal U18s ahead of Friday's game. The Gunners know first-hand what Chido Obi can offer after the striker scored 32 times in 19 matches for the club's U18s last season. Chido Obi even netted SEVEN in one game as Arsenal beat Norwich last April.

Arsenal were disappointed to lose Chido Obi at the start of the season to United, who paid a compensation fee to the Gunners for his signature. And there were fears from those at Sobha Realty Training Centre that Chido Obi could come back and haunt his former club in the Youth Cup.

But he is instead with United's first team and Amorim has been impressed with Chido Obi since joining the club from Arsenal. "I think if you see Chido playing sometimes every ball lost in the box, he is very clever," Amorim said of the teenager after he was handed his debut at Tottenham.

"So I was trying to put one more player, because I felt the team was good during the game and I didn’t feel the need to change. And Chido was that player - one long ball and he can make the difference."
