'Completely different': Fabrizio Romano suggests Arsenal are set to make a big signing in the summer, personal terms already agreed

Arsenal fans were left frustrated with their side’s decision to not sign any player in the winter transfer window.

The Gunners are now in a weaker position compared to the start of the window because Gabriel Jesus suffered a season-ending injury.
Mikel Arteta will have to go through the remainder of this season with Kai Havertz up top. The German could be forced to play every game until the end of the campaign.

No business in January really is frustrating for fans, but things will be very different in the summer transfer window, claims Fabrizio Romano.

Fabrizio Romano suggests Arsenal will repeat Declan Rice trick and make a big signing
Arsenal haven’t been afraid to spend big money under Arteta.

The Kroenkes set serious limitations when Arsene Wenger was at the helm, but after the legendary Frenchman left, they have spent a good amount of money.

As annoying as it is to fans that Arsenal did not sign any new player in this window, the positive is that they will have big money to spend in the summer.

Romano is convinced that Arsenal will make a massive signing after this season.

The journalist believes that the Gunners will do what they did for Declan Rice – splash huge cash in the summer after saving money in the previous window.

He said in a video on his YouTube channel: “Let me say that Arsenal’s message has always been either we find the right player, the right opportunity (or nothing).

“They were calling for Benjamin Sesko, but not leaving in January. They dream of Alexander Isak, but not leaving in January. They like Ollie Watkins, but bid rejected by Aston Villa. So, if they don’t find the right opportunity in the final hours, Arsenal are prepared to stay with the current team and then in the summer transfer window, trust me, this will be a completely, completely different story. This will be a way different story.

“Why? Because Arsenal, for the summer, are preparing something important. Arsenal are saving money.

“Do you remember what happened between Arsenal and Declan Rice? When they wanted to invest in that January window two years ago, they saved some money and then they signed Declan Rice. They did an important summer window, I expect the same from Arsenal.”

How Arsenal saved money before Declan Rice transfer
Arsenal wanted to make big moves in January 2023 – six months before they signed Rice.

The Gunners, who were in a title race then too, were ready to spend huge money and Arteta had two targets in mind.

Arsenal tried to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk and a deal even looked likely at one point. But, Chelsea hijacked the move and signed him in a deal worth up to £89 million.

In the same window, Arsenal also made a £60 million bid to sign Moises Caicedo, who was then at Brighton. But, the Seagulls refused to let him move to the Emirates.

Those two deals would’ve taken the Gunners’ expenditure in that window to almost £150 million. But, instead, they signed Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior – who cost less than £40 million combined excluding add-ons.

They saved money there and then used it to sign Rice for a club-record fee in the summer. Arsenal fans will be hoping that Arteta will do the same on either Isak or Sesko before the start of next season.
