‘Deal to be Done’: Arsenal have quietly asked about signing £55m striker this month – journalist

We’re heading into the final days of the transfer window, and Arsenal still have work to do.

However, Arsenal may well just have a trick or two up their sleeves.

Indeed, Arsenal have, over the past few days, come up with a few surprises already.
Arsenal bid for Ollie Watkins earlier this week seemingly from out of nowhere, while Arsenal made an approach for Evan Ferguson that nobody seemed to know much about either.

Arsenal are, somehow, making moves under the radar that aren’t being quickly picked up by the media, and according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on Curtis Shaw TV, Arsenal have quietly asked about signing another striker this month.

Arsenal make discreet Benjamin Sesko enquiry
According to Jacobs, Arsenal made a discreet enquiry about Benjamin Sesko earlier this month.

The journalist says that sources are now downplaying this approach, but he says that there’s no doubt about it, Arsenal did ask about the £55m striker at one point this month.

“The approach was made to Leipzig about are you or aren’t you prepared to sanction and exit,” Jacobs said.

“I get the impression that has been done discreetly, and now it’s being downplayed by sources. There’s no denying that Arsenal went to Leipzig and asked the question and tried to understand whether there was a particular fee that could warrant a sale, but the other challenge is the player saying I committed to a year here because I thought it was best for my development.”

Arsenal’s new era in the transfer market
Arsenal are entering a new era in the transfer market.

Indeed, Edu has now left the club, and the Gunners’ recruitment structure has been shaken up by the Brazilian’s departure.

That, of course, leads to plenty of changes in how the club operates, and it would appear that Arsenal’s transfer moves are becoming a lot less telegraphed these days.

Indeed, this month, Arsenal have made a few moves that have been absolute bolts from the blue.

Martin Zubimendi looks set to join Arsenal, and that deal was seemingly done from out of nowhere, while the bid for Watkins, the approach for Ferguson and the enquiry about Sesko only leaked after the event.

Arsenal’s transfer business is becoming a lot more secretive in this new era it would seem. In the past, Arsenal’s transfer sagas were very much played out in public – just look at Declan Rice’s move from West Ham to Arsenal, that seemed to drag on for months, but now, Arsenal look to be making moves quietly that the media aren’t cottoning onto immediately.

Arsenal may well pull a rabbit out of the hat before transfer deadline day.
