Mikel Arteta wants the North London club to sign both a striker and a wide forward in the summer to significantly bolster his attacking options.
Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester City and Aston Villa have all been keeping tabs on Gittens’ progress, however, the Gunners could be set to firmly enter the race.
A move back to England does appeal to Gittens, TBR Football has been told, which could stand Arteta’s side in great stead to take him from Borussia Dortmund.
Arsenal could emerge as firm favourites to sign Jamie Gittens
Arsenal could yet emerge as the strongest suitor for Jamie Gittens with the Gunners having added him to their list of summer transfer targets, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.
Borussia Dortmund have informed the 20-year-old and his representatives that they will allow him to leave this summer.
TBR Football sources have been told that Dortmund want a deal worth around £70 million for the player, who is contracted with the German club until 2028.
Gittens has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Dortmund with 11 goals to his name and despite the club’s struggles, he has stood out.
Dortmund look set to miss out on Champions League qualification, meaning sales are needed and expected in the summer transfer window.
Gittens will not push to Dortmund, but accepts that they will likely need the funds, meanwhile, he is seen to make sure he is prominent in Thomas Tuchel’s thinking ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
What other winger are Arsenal looking to sign?
Along with identifying striker targets, the Gunners have also been working to sign a winger and have several other targets in addition to Gittens.
Arteta’s side have also shortlisted the likes of West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.
