‘GOOD DEAL CONFIRMED’ player will join Arsenal in summer – Club will accept offer ‘without hesitation’

On February 20th, Espanyol sporting director Fran Garagarza revealed Arsenal made a bid for Joan García towards the end of last summer. He also stated the La Liga side are ready to sell him for a fee close to his release clause.
A day later, we covered claims from Spain which stated Arsenal will make a new attempt to sign the goalkeeper in the summer window. García claims he won’t “go through the back door” if he decides to change clubs.

AS again mention Arsenal’s failure to sign the stopper because their €20m bid was short of his release clause.

García has a €25m release clause which will increase to €30m if he makes his debut for Spain. The figure will raise by another €5m for the last 15 days of the window.

The goalkeeper has conceded eight goals in last 10 games for Espanyol and is knocking on La Roja manager Luis de la Fuente’s door. He will have to compete with Athletic’s Unai Simón, Chelsea’s Robert Sánchez, Real Sociedad’s Álex Remiro and Arsenal’s David Raya.

AS state there’s a ‘good chance’ of García and Raya being teammates at the north London club next season.

The Gunners don’t seem to have given up on the 23-year-old after last summer’s failure. The report claims they sent an official to Spain a few weeks ago, likely to keep an eye on García.

Espanyol rejected Arsenal’s €20m bid last summer and AS explain they would accept the same offer ‘without hesitation’ at the end of this season. Whether Mikel Arteta’s side will again offer €20m remains to be seen.
