‘Had his head turned’: Ben Foster says £65m Liverpool player isn’t working hard enough now

Darwin Nunez has been in the headines for some of the wrong reasons at Liverpool in recent times.

Nunez has been linked with the Saudi Pro League as of late, while his performances on the pitch haven’t been good enough lately.

Indeed, Darwin Nunez missed an absolute sitter against Aston Villa last week, and his form appears to be way off where it should be right now.

Speaking on his podcast, Ben Foster has been discussing Nunez’s situation at Liverpool, and he made an interesting observation about the Uruguayan.

According to Foster, Nunez isn’t working as hard as he should be at the moment with the pundit claiming that the striker looks as though he’s already had his head turned.

Foster shared his verdict on Nunez and his recent performances.

The pundit reckons that Nunez is still a handful as a striker, and that he can cause problems.

However, he does admit that the £65m man is too wasteful in front of goal and that his workrate has dropped off as his head has potentially been turned.

“I don’t think he’s a weak link, because I still think he’s a handful. And any defence coming up against him would worry about him because he’s so physically capable, and he can do things that other strikers just can’t do. He’s a little bit like Erlen Haaland in that sense, that he can create so much just for himself, just because of how big and athletic and strong he is.

“But I think the thing that Liverpool fans are a little bit disappointed with, a little bit disillusioned with, is that he misses so many big chances, so many big chances. And that’s, if they can replace that with a killer, with what’s going to happen with Trent or Virgil and Mohamed Salah, nobody really knows fully yet, that’s one position they need to get right, one position they need to get right. But it does, that’s enough of a statement for me from Arne Slot to say that I’m not happy with this.

“Usually Darwin, whether he misses or scores, he works his socks off, he does it properly, he gets back and he wants to win the ball back and he’s not even doing that now. That smells of a player who has already had his head turned.

Indeed, Nunez hasn’t been very effective recently, failing to score in nine of his last 10 matches.
