Isak is Mikel Arteta’s dream striker over Benjamin Sesko as the Spaniard seems to believe that the Newcastle number nine perfectly suits his style of play.
However, Newcastle could demand £150 million for Isak and force Arsenal or any suitor to shatter their transfer record if they are serious about securing his services.
As terrific as Alexander Isak is, there are plenty of other centre-forwards that the Gunners could potentially target.
Arsenal could re-ignite their interest in Ollie Watkins this summer after their failed £60 million bid to sign him in the winter transfer window.
Another English striker who looks like the real deal is Liam Delap — scoring 10 Premier League goals for an Ipswich Town side who are languishing in 18th place this season.
Gary Lineker says Arsenal should make a move for Ipswich striker Liam Delap
The 22-year-old has earned praise throughout the season, with Ange Postecoglou naming Delap a “real top striker” after Tottenham’s 4-1 win against Ipswich.
Gary Lineker also thinks that Delap is the striker who Arsenal should sign in the summer.
Lineker said on The Rest Is Football podcast: “If I were them, I’d go for Delap at Ipswich. I know he’s young, not entirely proven but he’s scored quite a lot of goals in the Premier League this season for a team that’s obviously struggled, having been promoted last season, Ipswich. I like his movement.”
Alan Shearer replied: “Didn’t I read he had a buyback clause or a percentage clause? If he has a buyback clause for a certain price for Man City, then does that make it difficult? Because if they wanted to make a few quid, they could buy him back and sell him again for more, I don’t know what’s in his contract.”
Gary Lineker replied: “I’m sure he must have a choice on where he wants to go, if you were him, you wouldn’t necessarily want to go to Man City at the moment because [Erling] Haaland has signed a nine-year-deal so you’ll have to wait an awfully long time to get game time.”
How Liam Delap performed vs Arsenal this season
Delap has already had a chance to lock horns against Arsenal earlier this season.
But unfortunately for the youngster, he had a quiet game as Kai Havertz’s goal was the difference between both sides.
Delap was tamed by Arsenal’s defence as he took no shots, managed to touch the ball just 14 times, was caught offside twice and taken off in the 80th minute.
Isak has lauded William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes as the league’s best centre-back pairing and for the former Manchester City centre-forward to dominate them would have always been a tall task.
But Delap’s talent is unquestionable and with Ipswich looking likely to go down, Arsenal could sign him at a cut-price fee.
Whether Mikel Arteta feels the in-form marksman is ready to lead the line for his side could decide whether a move occurs but as things stand, Delap is “intrigued” about potentially joining Chelsea.
