'Just signed': £12m Arsenal player has just agreed deal to leave the Emirates but he won't go until the summer - unbelievable

If Mikel Arteta is further backed on deadline day, the Gunners could pose a serious threat to any and every team in Europe during the business end of the season.

But from an outgoings perspective at the Emirates Stadium, a player whose future has seemed up in the air is Jorginho.

Mikel Arteta reportedly blocked Jorginho’s move to Flamengo, with the Brazilian giants hoping to sign the Italian international

Mikel Arteta has no interest in selling Jorginho, who remains a key squad player for Arsenal.

Arsenal were reportedly eyeing Douglas Luiz to replace the £12 million (Sky Sports) man but that no longer seems to be the case.

Now, journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that Jorginho has signed a pre-contract with Flamengo and is set to leave Arsenal in the summer.

“Jorginho just signed a pre-contract with Flamengo over a summer move.”

“The Brazilian club explored the margins with Arsenal for a transfer in this session but Arsenal closed the door. That’s why Flamengo finalised a free-agent deal.”

Jorginho has been considering his future away from the Emirates Stadium for a while. But Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Jorginho’s attitude, who has been a consistent performer since joining Arsenal from Chelsea in 2022.

Journalist Charles Watts revealed in September: “And even with his minutes seemingly being reduced for now, Jorginho is still such an important influence on the squad. He’s a leader and he still plays a key role off the pitch, even when he’s not playing on it.”

“He’s so well-regarded at the club. By his team-mates, by the coaching staff and by everyone else. He’s such a professional and you can see that on the touchline by the way he talks to his team-mates throughout the game when he’s warming up as a substitute.”

“He’s basically an extra member of the coaching staff.”

Jorginho holds Mikel Arteta in high esteem and he will be determined to potentially sign off on his time in Europe with a bang.

With important fixtures coming up for Arsenal across different competitions in the coming weeks, the Champions League winner will be determined to make himself useful when called upon.
