Liverpool have already held talks with “absolutely phenomenal player” over summer Anfield transfer

Liverpool and Manchester City have reportedly already held talks with Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich over a potential move to the Premier League.

Arne Slot is dominating the Premier League but would appear to be planning for the summer transfer window already.

The Dutch coach has done a wonderful job since taking over from Jurgen Klopp despite being severely underestimated by rival clubs, fans and the media in general.

However, we are yet to see how the former Feyenoord coach will approach the transfer market. We caught glimpses in the summer as he chose to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa with the former remaining at Valencia this season and will join in the summer.

However, Slot could be set for a far more ambitious approach when this season ends with links to Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich becoming more and more frequent as the season wears on.

Liverpool have already held talks with Joshua Kimmich over summer switch

Liverpool and Manchester City seem set for a tug-of-war over Joshua Kimmich. The German midfielder is set to leave Bayern Munich for free at the end of the season unless the Bundesliga giants can renew his contract before it expires in just over four months.

According to TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey, Man City and Liverpool have both been in contact with Kimmich and have informed him of their desire to sign him on a Bosman transfer in the summer window.

In 2020, Jose Mourinho called him “an absolutely phenomenal player” when he was 25. Now 29, the former RB Leipzig midfielder is mature, experienced and arguably one of the very best midfielders on the planet.

Naturally, Kimmich is not short on suitors with clubs from the Saudi Pro League, Italy, Spain and France keen on being the club to secure his signature.

His €375,000 (£316k) per week wages will likely prove too much for Liverpool so unless he is willing to take a pay cut to make the move to Anfield, it’s difficult to see the Reds being willing to match his current salary.

This could be different were it not for Liverpool’s triple contract negotiations with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold but given how expensive it will be if all three renew their deals, Kimmich may prove too expensive for the Reds this year.
