Liverpool in talks to snatch signing from Manchester United’s clutches despite claims elsewhere

Liverpool are in talks to sign Geovany Quenda from Sporting Club de Portugal and potentially snatch him from Manchester United’s clutches.

That’s according to Record, who say Liverpool are in the mix for the highly rated youngster after reports yesterday that Manchester United had already wrapped up a deal for him.

Reports yesterday stated Manchester United had already wrapped up a deal for Quenda for the summer. They would be paying €60m for the youngster, who was handed his debut in Sporting’s first team by Ruben Amorim.

That claim was quickly pushed back on in Portugal and England, where the insistence has been a deal is not agreed and Manchester United are simply among his admirers.

Record now report that Liverpool are among those who like the player and are among those who are ‘well positioned’ to get the 17-year-old winger.

They state that there have been regular ‘informal talks’ with Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool since the start of the season.

No agreement has been found with these teams as yet, but Quenda has decided that the next step in his career will be the Premier League. He’s been approached by top teams from other leagues but wants to go to England.

Informal talks have taken place over the last few weeks, most recently with Manchester United, but Liverpool or City could come forward and made ‘concrete offers’ for the player for the next season. They, United and Chelsea have all made frequent trips to watch him throughout the season.

The race for the youngster remains open then, with Liverpool very much in the picture despite claims Manchester United have already wrapped up a deal for him.
