Liverpool are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League. They've done that for some time now, such has been the level under Arne Slot.

Now, in truth, Liverpool aren't actually delivering a level much different to the one they managed under Jurgen Klopp this time last year. There's a sense that things are a bit more solid in this campaign, however, and that Slot's team may find it easier to maintain their level until the end.
Of course, they're helped in that regard by this being the same squad as last season but one year older. They're more experienced, more used to playing with one another, and are quite clearly inspired by their 'nearly' moments from 2023/24.
There's still a long way to go, of course, but Liverpool are favourites to recapture the Premier League title they last won in 2020. They finished top of the UEFA Champions League league phase, too - and are among the favourites to win that, too.
And yet despite being the best team in England this season, Liverpool aren't happy. An alarming statement of intent is coming.
Liverpool want better
It's a testament to how well Arne Slot has done this season that Liverpool are simultaneously thrilled with how he's performing but also don't have much faith in this squad. The Reds want better.
Not from Slot, as such, but there's a sense that Liverpool can actually be much better than this under the Dutchman. All he requires is the right squad.
And that's coming in what will Alam the rest of their Premier League competition. The squad that has outperformed the lot of them is actually viewed as quite weak.
Liverpool want to change their forward line dramatically, for one. Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that a true overhaul is planned there.
The Reds want to bring in an 'important' centre-back, says Fabrizio Romano. It's another area they see room for improvement.
On top of that, Liverpool are expected to sign a new left-back, too. This will be a major summer - and one that changes the squad quite dramatically.
It will be a shock to the rest of the league. Liverpool plan on making a true statement here, winning the Premier League and then announcing that the squad isn't actually good enough.
