Mikel Arteta must now start £25m Arsenal ace vs Newcastle, could take them to Wembley - opinion

Arsenal registered a stunning 5-1 win over Manchester City in the Premier League last weekend.

The Gunners had five different goalscorers, including Ethan Nwaneri, who scored in stoppage time.

Nwaneri netted with a brilliant curling effort from the edge of the box for the second straight game.

In our view, manager Mikel Arteta must pick the 17-year-old in the starting line-up for the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Newcastle United tonight.

Arteta went with Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli on the left and right wing respectively against the Cityzens.

Trossard did not make a goal contribution, but the Belgian still had a superb outing and gave Matheus Nunes a tough time with his dribbling and quick link-up play.

Martinelli was equally good on the right wing and created the goal for Kai Havertz on the counter-attack. We would still prefer a change with Nwaneri replacing Martinelli.

The Gunners are 2-0 down after the first leg at the Emirates Stadium, where they were guilty of missing six clear-cut chances, including one which fell to Martinelli. He hit the woodwork.

Arsenal must capitalise on their scoring opportunities tonight. With Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus injured, Nwaneri is undoubtedly the best finisher despite his tender age.

The £25 million-rated star has shown his immense potential with two sublime goals from the edge of the box in the last week. The Gunners need a risk-taker from such positions.

Newcastle will obviously play with a low block under manager Eddie Howe. Nwaneri’s long-range shooting ability should come in handy against such opposition.

The youngster could make a big difference in overturning the deficit to progress to the final at Wembley.

Arsenal will face Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool if they beat the Magpies on aggregate at St James’ Park.
