The Gunners took on Pep Guardiola’s side at the Emirates in what was a huge clash. It was a tight affair for the first 55 minutes of the game, but the hosts ran away with it after that.
Goals from Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri sealed a fantastic win for Mikel Arteta’s side.
But, all the talk since the game has not been about Arsenal’s brilliant performance, it has only been about their celebration.
Pep Guardiola reacts to question about Arsenal’s celebrations after beating Manchester City
The rivalry between Arsenal and Manchester City has become feisty over the last two years.
The game at the Etihad back in September was filled with talking points. Leandro Trossard’s red card and John Stones’ late equaliser barely made the headlines because Erling Haaland telling Arteta to ‘stay humble’ was all people wanted to talk about.
The Norway international even asked Lewis-Skelly who he was after they came to blows with each other, and the youngster did not forget that.
When he scored against City at the Emirates, Lewis-Skelly copied Haaland’s celebration, while Gabriel shouted in the striker’s face after Arsenal’s opener.
That has dominated the headlines in recent days, and Guardiola was asked about it again in his press conference ahead of his side’s FA Cup clash against Leyton Orient.
When a reporter asked the Spaniard if he would encourage his players to ‘celebrate wildly’, the City boss said, as relayed on HaytersTV: “No, come on, it’s a reaction, forget!
“It has happened. Later in our games maybe we’ll find them in the Champions League this season. Otherwise, it’s over the chance we can face, and next season we’ll try to beat them.
“This season we could not do it at home and away. That’s all, it’s really, really not important.”
When Arsenal could face Manchester City in the Champions League – two scenarios
Arsenal and Manchester City have played each other twice in the Premier League already this season, and there is no chance they will face one another again in either the FA Cup or the Carabao Cup.
The only way we can see the two sides come to blows again this campaign is in the Champions League, and there are two scenarios.

As the bracket shows, if Manchester City beat Real Madrid in their playoff and then get past one of Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen, they could meet the Gunners in the quarter-final, provided that they get there too.
If City are drawn on the opposite side of the bracket, the only possibility of the two English sides meeting each other will be in the final of the Champions League.
If both sides make it there, it will be an incredible occasion.
