'Pushing': Arsenal are moving fast to sign £50m striker before today's deadline - journalist

Despite their brilliant attacking display against Manchester City on Sunday, Arsenal are still firmly in the race to sign a striker on deadline day.

After scoring five goals against Man City, one might be forgiven for concluding that Arsenal don’t need a striker – Kai Havertz even scored a typical number nine’s strike.

However, Havertz will be run into the ground come May if Mikel Arteta doesn’t have an alternative, and playing Leandro Trossard as a false nine won’t suffice.

If Arsenal are going to compete across all competitions then a new striker is needed, even if it’s solely on a six-month basis.

In fact, given that Arsenal want Alexander Isak or Benjamin Sesko in the summer, a short-term deal could suit the Gunners perfectly.

Arsenal are still hoping to sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich
That being said, journalist Miguel Delaney has now shared a post on X expressing that Arsenal are ‘pushing’ with their pursuit of Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel.

Tel rejected Tottenham Hotspur recently despite the clubs agreeing a £50m deal, already endearing himself to the N5 faithful.

And given that Manchester United have been unable to find an agreement with Bayern for the 19-year-old, the path has somewhat been cleared for Arsenal to make their play.

Posting a succinct update on X, Delaney said: “Arsenal are pushing on Tel, with the way potentially cleared as United can’t strike deal with Bayern.”

TBR Football shared on Sunday that Arsenal were still in the hunt for Tel, despite links between the club and the striker appearing to slow down elsewhere.

And perhaps Arsenal fans could be set for more good news after their 5-1 win against Man City.

Arsenal aren’t out of the Ollie Watkins race
Of course, there will be some supporters who will still be hoping that Arsenal are able to sign Ollie Watkins.

Villa have named their Watkins price to Arsenal, and it seems as if the figure is within the Gunners’ reach.

An exciting time for Arsenal fans, who have been craving the arrival of a new number nine for some time now.

As mentioned, Havertz is doing a fine job of leading the line at the Emirates Stadium, but he will also benefit from the arrival of someone who can often run in behind.

And whether it’s Tel or Watkins, Arsenal will be in a much better position to deliver a trophy if they simply have one more quality option up top.
