Report: Arsenal reject approach for £12m midfielder as Mikel Arteta makes January stance clear

Arsenal have received an offer from Flamengo for Jorginho and Mikel Arteta has made his stance clear over letting the midfielder leave before Monday’s deadline.

Joringho’s contract with the Gunners expires at the end of the season and Flamengo have tried testing their luck to bring him in now.

The Italian international has started on just 12 occasions this season with several Arsenal midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order.

So with his minutes being limited and his time in North London drawing to a close, the Brazilian club have made their move to try and recruit him sooner than originally planned.

Arsenal have rejected an approach for Jorginho from Flamengo who wanted to sign the player this month, according to GE.

The Gunners made it clear to the Brazilian club that they do not want to lose the player with just a few days left in the transfer window.

The former Chelsea player looks set to sign for Flamengo when his contract expires in the summer with the two parties close to reaching an agreement.

The club from Rio de Janeiro are currently negotiating a pre-agreement contract with the 33-year-old who they hope to sign before June 15 when the Club World Cup commences.

Flamengo have not yet ruled out a final attempt for an immediate release, but the signal has been clear from the North London club.

Mikel Arteta is counting on Jorginho to play in the Premier League, League Cup and Champions League and they have no time to sort out a replacement.

Jorginho’s minutes this season for Arsenal have been pretty limited with the midfielder having started on just 12 occasions in all competitions.

Arsenal are well stocked in midfielder with Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey and Mikel Merino at Arteta’s disposal.
