The Sweden international is expected to be one of the most sought after players in the winter window, with Arsenal in desperate need for a new centre-forward. The Gunners are currently without a natural striker sue to injuries to both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.
Arsenal have been long-term admireres of Isak, who has scored 22 goals in 31 appearances in all competition for Newcastle this season. 19 of those goals have come in 24 Premier League games.
It’s no surprise then that the Magpies will be looking for a huge fee should they decide to cash in over the summer. The club have recently set a strong stance on interest in their players, including Isak.
That stance could now be strengthened, despite the club confirming an £11 million loss in their latest financial results. The club released their results for the 2023/24 season on Tuesday.
While they recorded a loss, the results could give them a boost in terms of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The regulations allow clubs to lose a maximum of £105million over a three-year rolling period, with deductions allowed for investment into things including the women’s team and infrastructure.
As reported by ChronicleLive, the £11 million loss will replace a £73million loss for the 2021/22 season in the three-year cycle. It will therefore, in theory, give Newcastle wiggle room of an extra £62million in the summer transfer window.
The club weren’t active in terms of incomings in the January window, due to concerns over PSR. But the extra room with the big loss dropping off the cycle for the next assessment period will be a boost to the club.
It could mean that they are able to fight harder to keep hold of Isak when the summer transfer window comes around. They could potentially offer him bigger money, or make some signings without having to cash in on their star player to fund it, something that may not be good news for Arsenal.
