Arsenal's final two-man striker transfer shortlist with Sesko decision made

Arsenal's search to sign a new striker is one of the most talked about transfer topics. Mikel Arteta is desperate to strengthen his front line this summer after failing to add another No.9 in the January window.

In fact, the Gunners' need for a new out-and-out centre forward goes back much longer. They were in the market for a striker last summer, even after signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea in June 2023.
Benjamin Sesko was among those linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, but the 21-year-old committed his long-term future to RB Leipzig instead, signing an improved five-year contract. However, there was a gentleman's agreement installed the deal which could see him depart for £62million this summer.

And the Slovenian is still someone Arsenal want to sign. The Athletic report that the Gunners have 'done a significant amount of work on many options' and 'none more so than Sesko'.

While that doesn't mean Arsenal are guaranteed to sign him, the Gunners have propped Sesko up near the top of their summer shopping list and a transfer could happen. But Arteta's side are expecting to face competition for his signature, as 'they are not the only club pursuing' the ex-Red Bull Salzburg man.

Sesko has been in excellent form for Leipzig this season, scoring 17 goals and adding five assists in 34 matches. He netted three times in the Champions League and is one of Europe's most sought-after strikers. Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are among the others linked with a move.

Elsewhere, Arsenal remain interested in Newcastle United's Alexander Isak. The Swede is someone that could be on the move this summer after firing in 19 goals in 24 Premier League games this season. The Gunners have been tipped to sign Isak for some time, even before his switch to Tyneside in summer 2022.

The Athletic add that Arsenal are still interested in Isak, though a move to the Emirates is not going to be cheap. Newcastle value the former Borussia Dortmund star at over £150m and are reluctant to sell their talisman, who has three years left on his contract and is integral to Eddie Howe's long-term plans.

Hugo Ekitike is another forward that has been linked with a move to north London but 'no other candidates' are as high as Sesko and Isak in Arsenal's thinking at this stage. It's stressed that the situation could change and the Gunners may look at alternatives if they can't get a deal for either of them over the line.
