The former Chelsea manager has been handed an 18-month deal with the Three Lions, working until the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico. England take on Albania and Latvia in two friendlies this month with Tuchel to take charge of his first games as the national team manager.
A number of players have been tipped to be included in the squad but according to BBC Sport’s John Murray, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly has been included after a breakout year with the Gunners.
Lewis-Skelly debut season
The Arsenal defender made his senior debut for the Gunners in September in the dramatic 2-2 with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium and has been a key part of Mikel Arteta’s squad since. He has made 25 appearances and scored in the 5-1 thrashing of Man City at the Emirates Stadium in early February.
The 18-year-old has played at left back and midfield for the Gunners this term and asked just this week what position Lewis-Skelly will play in long-term for Arsenal, Arteta said: “He can play in both positions and in relation to the player that he plays as a full-back as well, they can interact and if they change positions.
"He played as a six. He was developing in the academy as a six as well, so what he's doing this season is something new for him. So I think it's much more to it to play in midfield. He's done really well tonight as well. I think he was very, very consistent in his actions and I'm really happy with what he's doing."
What about Ethan Nwaneri?
Another Arsenal academy produce who has enjoyed a strong debut season is winger Ethan Nwaneri. He has stood in well for star forward Bukayo Saka, with the player sidelined by a hamstring injury since December. He has scored eight goals in 28 appearances this season but it is not yet clear if he will make Tuchel’s squad.
Tuchel has drawn up a 55-man long list of who could make the squad. Asked last week about the duo’s possible inclusion, Arteta said: “I have no idea [if they are on Tuchel’s longlist]. Obviously, what I've read and hear about the noise that is around it. So, it's Thomas who will talk with his coaches the decision and we'll support it.
“Knowing Thomas and the coaching staff and the environment that they have created on the England campus, it will be an incredible experience for them.
“If that’s the case, whenever that is. That’s not my decision; that will be their decision. How we manage them here, it’s ours. It’s in our control. Down there, we’ll leave it to coaches and people that are super experienced. Much more experienced than me.”
