Expert: Trossard & second senior Arsenal forward 'will be leaving'

Leandro Trossard could leave Arsenal this summer if the club can find a replacement amid interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Mikel Arteta will make the final decision about the 30-year-old’s future.

Trossard will have just 12 months remaining on his contract at the Emirates in June and could be allowed to leave in the summer in a last-ditch attempt to raise money from his sale.

Football Insider revealed in September that Al-Ittihad submitted a bid of around £30million for the Belgium international after the close of the English transfer window.

Saudi Pro League clubs want to sign Trossard again this summer, and Arsenal are now prepared to let him leave should an acceptable bid arrive.

However, concerns about the lack of squad depth in Arteta’s side mean any exiting players will have to be replaced in the transfer market.

Mikel Arteta to make Leandro Trossard exit decision
Football Insider revealed on 4 March that Arsenal are targeting Wolves star Matheus Cunha despite his recent outburst and red card against Bournemouth.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that finding a replacement will be key to whether Arteta green-light’s Trossard’s exit.

“He’s only got 12 months left on his contract,” he told Football Insider.

“So selling him this summer might be their last opportunity to raise money from his sale.

“If Saudi teams are in for him and they’re ready to pay the sort of money they’ve been paying for other players, I think he will leave Arsenal.

“But it depends on whether Mikel Arteta thinks he’s going to play a regular role in his team or not.

“He’s one of those players you consider as one who can be a part of the squad and come in to make a difference, but he’s not going to play every week.

“It seems to me like he’s a player they’ll look at and feel they can replace in the transfer market.

“But when you look at Sterling as well, he’ll be leaving, and then they’re going to be short of wide players which has already been a problem this season.

“So I think they’ll be ready to let Trossard go, but they’ll need to find a replacement and then Arteta will make the decision about if they can afford to sell him.

“Those wide areas are going to be a priority for them this summer.”

Mikel Arteta boosted by Andrea Berta advanced talks
Arsenal’s transfer plans are set to be boosted ahead of the summer transfer window after the arrival of new director of football Andrea Berta.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 6 March that Arsenal are in very advanced talks with Berta, who had previously been in the sporting director’s role at Atletico Madrid.

Arteta’s side have been without a sporting director since Edu’s departure from Arsenal in November – following a five year spell at the club.

Brown told Football Insider that Arteta was angry at Arsenal’s hierarchy following the January transfer window given the lack of backing in the January window.
