‘I didn’t think’: Darren Bent says he’s been shocked by how bad £50m Arsenal player is

Indeed, the title race is over in the eyes of many after Arsenal dropped points against both West Ham and Nottingham Forest this week, while Liverpool have pulled clear.
Barring a minor miracle, Arsenal won’t be winning the title this season, and, of course, one of the main reasons for that is Arsenal’s lack of firepower.

Kai Havertz is out for the season, while Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus are also sidelined right now.

Arsenal have had to field a makeshift forward line in recent times, and, sadly, a number of players haven’t been up to scratch.

Leandro Trossard has been criticised recently, while Raheem Sterling’s form has been terrible.

Speaking on Inside Gooners, Darren Bent has been discussing Sterling’s form, and he says that he’s been surprised by how bad he has been this season.

Darren Bent shocked by Raheem Sterling’s Arsenal form
Bent spoke about Sterling and his recent showings.

The pundit says that he never had huge expectations for the £50m man at Arsenal, but he’s actually been worse than he expected him to be.

“Now, I wouldn’t say I was really excited when he signed, but I did think it was quite a shrewd move by Arsenal getting him. I know, again, it’s not panic, but it was last stages of the window. What can we get of Raheem Sterling as a chance?” Bent said.

“I almost felt like, okay, this is his time then to get back to the Raheem we know. We know he’s played a lot of football from a young age until this point. So even though he’s only 30, with the amount of football he’s played, he’s probably closer to 35 with the amount of football, the games he’s played.

“But I didn’t think he’d be this bad. I know that sounds bad, but I thought he’d be better.”

Raheem Sterling’s worst season of his career
Sterling’s form hasn’t just dipped this season, he’s genuinely having the worst season of his career.

Indeed, since breaking through at Liverpool, Sterling has never been this poor, and the numbers show it.

As Bent said, it may just be age and miles on the clock catching up to Sterling.

The England international has played so much football over the years, and with that much wear and tear on his body over the years, he may not have much left in the tank.

Sterling has been a great player over the years, winning countless trophies with Manchester City, but, sadly, it looks like his time as a top-level Premier League player is over.

It will be interesting to see where Sterling is playing his football next season, because it looks like Sterling has no future at Arsenal beyond this loan spell.
