'I was talking to Liverpool star Darwin Nunez - this is what he told me about transfer offers'

Liverpool are planning to accept offers for Darwin Nunez this summer as he is no longer a part of Arne Slot’s long-term plan for the future.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 25-year-old has failed to impress Slot or his coaching staff.

Nunez’s constant missed chances and uninspiring performances mean the Reds are preparing to replace him with a “top-level forward” this summer.

This comes after Slot slammed the forward following his performances against Wolves and Aston Villa as he ranted: “For the second time in a row I wasn’t happy with his work effort.

“I can’t accept if a player doesn’t give everything. That is clear. I can accept it once, but twice was a bit too much.” [via BBC]

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 4 March that Nunez is unhappy at Liverpool after the club blocked a “huge-money” move to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal in January.

However, they are thought to be more open to his exit in the summer when they will have more time to identify and sign a replacement.

Darwin Nunez to leave Liverpool after Arne Slot green light
Brown told Football Insider on 21 February that Liverpool plan to sign a world-class striker this summer after growing frustrated with Nunez and Luis Diaz.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade during their most successful period, insisted that the Uruguay international’s exit will make way for potential additions in the summer.

“He’s never struck me as being a Liverpool player,” he told Football Insider.

“When he first came, his work rate and endeavor was such that people believed, when he settled in, would be an asset for them.

“A lot of the time it’s like he’s only just missing chances, or he’s nearly there, or he’s unlucky.

“You find you’re making excuses for him, but you can’t keep doing that and he’s not getting any better.

“He comes into a very, very strong side, but they’re having to carry him through games.

“I don’t care who it is, if you put any top striker in the world in this Liverpool team, they would score bags full of goals.

“The manager and his staff have not been impressed, and that’s why he’s criticised him publicly.

“So I hear they’ve come to the conclusion that they need a better, more accomplished forward to lead the line, and then he’ll be on his way out.

“If they can bring in a decent fee for him, that will be a bonus, and they can make way for his replacement.”

Joao Pedro and Alexander Isak on Arne Slot’s shortlist
One name on Liverpool’s shortlist as they continue to search for a new forward is Brighton star Joao Pedro, who could be available for a “massive” fee this summer.

Brown told Football Insider on 3 March that Pedro wants to join Liverpool from Brighton at the end of the season and would welcome the chance to open talks.

However, there is a feeling the Reds would prefer to sign more of an out-and-out goalscorer to lead the line – something they do not currently have.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 16 February that Liverpool want to sign Newcastle’s Alexander Isak who is seen as the “perfect” addition to Slot’s side.
