‘Our understanding’: £40m striker wants to sign for Arsenal and spend the rest of his career there - journalist

Arsenal need a new striker in the summer, anyone could tell you that.

Indeed, Kai Havertz is out injured for the season, and that has exposed the severe lack of depth Arsenal have up front.

Luckily, help could be on the way.

Indeed, Arsenal have a few striker targets in mind this summer.

Speaking on KS1 TV, Steve Kay has been discussing Arsenal’s transfer plans for the summer, and he says that the Gunners will go back in for Ollie Watkins.

Arsenal bid for Watkins in January, and while that bid was rejected, Arsenal aren’t being put off this potential deal.

Meanwhile, according to Kay, Watkins is keen to join Arsenal, and he actually wants to end his career with the Gunners.

Ollie Watkins wants to retire at Arsenal
Kay shared what he knows about Watkins and his desires this summer.

According to the journalist, Arsenal will be back in for Watkins, and the player is keen on the move.

“I’m told that Arsenal will go back in for Watkins in the summer, that doesn’t mean that Arsenal don’t want Benjamin Sesko. Arsenal put in a bid for £40m for Ollie Watkins, because that’s all they could afford because of PSR, that’s all they had,” Kay said.

Kay spoke about Watkins later on in the show.

“Watkins, like what we’ve said, from our understanding, he wants to end his career at Arsenal. He’s spoken to Arsenal, that’s why Arsenal made their bid in January,” Kay said.

“However, you would be an idiot if you didn’t make the call (as Manchester United), I’d be getting him on the phone right now mate.”

What Ollie Watkins said about signing for Arsenal
Kay says that Watkins wants to retire at Arsenal, and it’s not surprising to hear that.

Indeed, Watkins had always harboured ambitions of playing for Arsenal.

“Yeah, the dream. That’s the dream to play for Arsenal one day”, Watkins said. “But you know, it’s a long shot.”

Watkins believed a move to Arsenal was a pipe dream at that point in time, but since then, he’s become a bona fide Premier League star.

Games 174
Goals 71
Assists 32
Now, Watkins’ dream move is within reach, and he may well try to make a move happen this summer.

As Kay says, if Watkins joins Arsenal, he may well see out his career in north London.

Whether or not Arsenal can get this deal done remains to be seen, but the Gunners could certainly do a lot worse than signing the Aston Villa star this summer.
