Premier League fixture gift hands Arsenal Premier League title boost after Champions League blitz

Arsenal have been given renewed hope that their season might not indeed be over as they put seven goals past PSV Eindhoven. The Dutch side were incredibly disappointing but the Gunners were ruthless with their finishing – a trait which has been missing throughout the campaign.
The positivity is up again, even after the frustrating news supporters got regarding ticket price rises. The win over the Dutch side has breathed optimism and hope into the fanbase. The curiosity, however, is what this win could do in the extreme.

A confidence hit, that belief within the side, particularly for players like Martin Odegaard, could be game-changing. In terms of the UEFA Champions League, Arsenal know a trip to Madrid is on the way with either Real or Atletico waiting in the quarter-finals.

There is a chance that Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka could have some role to play, the Brazilian having the better chance. Mikel Arteta provided an update after the draw with Nottingham Forest, whereby he did give some hope.

“No, we have a meeting tomorrow [Thursday, 27 February] to discuss where they are, especially Gabi,” he said. “That has probably a chance before Bukayo to come in, but how soon that is, we'll have to see how it goes in the next week or ten days.”

Asked if they could return for the Fulham clash, the first game after the international break, and before the Champions League quarter-finals first leg a week after he said: “I think so.”

“But again, let's see how they evolve in the next few weeks to make the right steps as well. And then after that, they've been out for a long, long time, so we're going to have to integrate them as well, probably gradually. So they're evolving well, but they're still a bit far.”

As we have seen from Ben White’s reintegration he has not come in and started games, it has been small cameos at the end of matches. Even if the pair are back, being up to full speed for two huge European ties remains highly unlikely.

For the Premier League however, the fixture list is far kinder for Arsenal than their distant “title rivals”. I think the use of inverted commas is necessary with the gap now 13 points. The Gunners do have a game in hand which is at home to Chelsea – winning that closes the gap to ten.

Arsenal also travel to Anfield, should they win that game, they would need to overcome a seven-point difference elsewhere. This is by far the toughest game but other away trips that remain include Manchester United, Everton, Ipswich Town and Southampton, all sides currently in the bottom seven of the table.

Liverpool, meanwhile, must go to Fulham, Chelsea and Brighton while also hosting the Gunners alongside, Tottenham and in-form Crystal Palace. It is a trickier run and there is always a chance that finally the injuries and misfortune that have befallen Arsenal could land at the Reds’ doorstep.

Arsenal need a miracle, but scoring seven in one game with this current side certainly felt like one. Maybe, just maybe, anything is possible.
