The 18-year-old sustained the injury while preparing to represent Denmark at an Under-19s tournament in Hungary.
Sources have told Football Insider that Nygaard is expected to be out for six to seven weeks and is “unlikely” to play again this season.
The injury comes as a huge blow for the emerging star, who is regarded by Arsenal as a young keeper with huge potential.
Arsenal believe Nygaard has ‘huge potential’
Nygaard only joined Arsenal last year (2024) following his exit from FC Nordsjaelland in his native Denmark.
He has played regularly for the Gunners’ Under-21 side this term, sharing goalkeeping responsibilities with England Under-19 international Tommy Setford.

Goalkeepers at Arsenal
At the senior level, Arsenal have David Raya between the sticks with Brazillian shot-stopper Neto waiting in the wings to provide cover.
Football Insider revealed last month (10 February) that Arsenal expect to finally land Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia in the upcoming summer window.
The Gunners are still keen to add competition and cover between the sticks after attempting to move for the 23-year-old last year.
Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal update
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (18 March) that Arsenal are set to find a deal for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes “too hard to do” in the summer transfer window.
Mikel Arteta‘s side have already agreed in principle to signing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi – who has a release clause worth around £51million in his contract.
Arsenal are also set to be in the market for a world-class new striker in the off-season.
