He’s joined by a dedicated X account for Flamengo, Red-Black Paparazzo, who have video footage of the Arsenal midfielder being collected at the airport in Rio de Janeiro.
They say that he confirmed he has time to close a deal with Flamengo but had insisted to the press that he was on vacation in the country and nothing more. The midfielder does have Brazilian family.
However, his appearance in Rio comes after reports this week that a move to Flamengo was practically done following months of speculation about his future.
Indeed, it was claimed on Monday that the 33-year-old’s agent was in attendance at the Maracanã to watch the Brazilian club’s 1-0 win over Fluminense in the second leg of the Campeonato Carioca final at the weekend.
That was ahead of meeting with the club about his client, with Flamengo president José Boto also confirming the meeting.
Now the Arsenal midfielder has travelled there himself, which, if we’re putting two and two together, would suggest that a move is on the cards and there’ll be more developments to follow soon.
